Some pieces you carry in on a hand truck. This one took a good deal more.
It is a rose quartz point, over two tons of it, hand carved into a skull wrapped in a single leaf. The work runs all the way around, so there is no bad side to it. Pieces like this are not something you stumble onto. Most of the time you would have to visit one of the world’s largest gem shows to stand next to one, or find the rare high end gallery willing to part with a piece at a price to match.
We were able to bring it home because of the family we partner with in Brazil. They let us bring pieces that almost never reach public view, carved by master craftsmen, and we set them out where anyone can walk up and put a hand on them.
It landed as part of a single arrival of more than fifty giants, each one of a kind. That kind of show is not something we expect to pull off twice. Come stand next to it while it is here.
