Yachats, Oregon
A shop built on the hunt
Styx, Stones, n' Bones is a family shop in downtown Yachats, run by Marc and Jen Taylor. The name breaks down about how you would guess. Styx for the water this coast is built on, Stones for the crystals and minerals, and Bones for the fossils.
The right place, again and again
The whole thing started with a love of rocks and a knack for being where the good material is. Years ago we bought into a business that imported from Brazil, and that opened a door we have been walking through ever since. Today most of what fills the shop comes from a family we partner with in Brazil, the kind of relationship that takes years to earn and lets us bring home pieces that almost never reach the public.
What we chase
The rest we hunt down. Gem shows in Tucson and Denver, estate sales, warehouses where a collection has sat untouched for decades, and now and then a giant carnelian pulled straight out of a local creek. We have brought in single loads of twenty seven and forty thousand pounds at a time. On any given day there are well over a hundred thousand pounds of rock in and around the shop.
Some of it slips in your pocket. Some of it you can sit on. There are amethyst benches and love seats, tourmaline chairs, a jasper throne, and carved giants that run into the thousands of pounds.
And then there is Zoose
Zoose is the shop dog, and by our count the second most photographed thing in Yachats after the ocean. He has a sense for who needs a little extra love on a given day, and he is usually right. Nick, the shop cat, supervises the warehouse.
We love this stuff, and we love sharing it. Whether you know exactly what a Lemurian twin quartz is or you wandered in because the window looked interesting, there is a place for you here. Come hang out.
